These crosses are handmade using rushes by a lovely lady named Naomh Bhride in county Roscommon. Here is a brief history of the woman who made the first cross of this kind, Bridgid.

Bridgid was the daughter of a pagan chieftain. Before his death Bridgid sat by him in prayer and whiled away the time weaving the first St. Bridgids Cross from the rushes coving the floor. Her father seeing the cross asked her to explain its meaning and was so overwhelmed he became a Christian before his death. Bridgid went on to bulid the first convent in Ireland known as The Church of Oak or Cill Dara in Gaeilge, today Cill Dara is known as Kildare.

This cross is still made in Ireland today and is adorned in a home on St Bridgids feast day, February 1st. It is believed to protect the home and animals from evil.

This cross measures 11x9 inches
